| 2001 Rhode Island Earth Day Festival
 |
-- On April 28 2001, USGS participated in
Worcester's Earth Day Festival held at Institute Park. The
display consisted of two tables--one held microscopes and
other water-quality monitoring equipment, and the other table
displayed informational materials: fact sheets, reports, posters, circulars,
bookmarks. Many publications were given to those whom were interested. |
 |
Throughout the day, a steady stream of adults and children
stopped by the booth to learn about what the USGS is and
what we do; they also looked through the scopes and
compared the difference between water from Lake Quinsigamond,
which contained a diverse collection of aquatic organisms, with
water from Salisbury Pond, which contained few organisms. |
| Volunteers
for the windy, but sunny day included Wayne Sonntag, Matt Cooke,
Chris Waldron, Kathy Derocher, Mary Ashman, Gail Moede, and Paul Friesz. |
