Joe Zanca, Jerry Girouard, and Nick Stasulis (ME-WSC) were at the Ipswich River near Ipswich, MA (01102000) to make a high flow measurement on May 16, 2006. While Jerry and Nick went to the gage house up the street and Joe was setting up for the boat measurement, a gentleman either drove his pickup truck into the flooded Asbury St. or recently had. The Topsfield Fire Department showed up on the scene requested Joe to take them out to the man on the roof of his truck in the USGS boat. Joe took one fireman with him in the boat to the rescue the man. Jerry and Nick missed the event while at the gage up the street.

In the two photos below of the rescue, all three of them are in the boat. Joe is operating the boat. The man from the truck has the hat on.

The fire department in the background is the Hamilton Fire Department. The Ipswich River separates the towns of Topsfield and Hamilton at this point. Joe was with the Topsfield Fire Department since he was on the Topsfield side of the river. The next two photos were scanned from photos neighbors at the scene took.

Other photos are after Joe safely delivered the man from the flooded truck and the fireman back to land.
